Education

There are a number of high performing schools in the local area that cater for all age groups. For younger children, primary schools include Hoo St Werburgh Primary School and Marlborough Centre, Chattenden Primary School, High Halstow Primary and Wainscott Primary. The Hundred of Hoo Academy welcomes children from the ages of four to 16 years and has a sixth form for pupils up to 19 years old. Further secondary providers can be found in nearby towns, such as The Thomas Aveling School in Rochester, The Rochester Grammar School (girls), The Victory Academy in Chatham and the Brompton Academy in Gillingham.

Residents will find several shops in the village, while 10 minutes’ drive away, Rochester offers a range of independent and specialist retailers. Gillingham six miles away, Gravesend 10 miles away, and Maidstone 16 miles away all have vibrant shopping districts, boasting an array of high-street brands, department and chain stores. Several retail parks and outlet centres are also located in this part of Kent and include Dockside in Chatham, Hempstead Valley in Gillingham and Imperial Retail Park in Gravesend. Bluewater in Greenhithe is 15 miles away and is home to around 300 well-known and boutique stores, eateries, an adventure park and a multi-screen cinema.

 

Visitor attractions

The development’s countryside location lends itself to outdoor pursuits, such as rambling and cycling, and there are two children’s play areas within walking distance. For those more culturally inclined, the Brook and Central theatres in Chatham present a comprehensive programme of drama, comedy, dance, music and family entertainment. Film fans have the choice of two multi-screen cinemas within 15 minutes’ drive of Willow Fields, both offering the latest blockbusters, classic movies and live theatre screenings

Get closer to nature at Capstone Farm Country Park, which is 20 minutes’ drive from the development and is home to a variety of wildlife, as well as encompassing play areas, walking trails, cycle routes, bridleways and picnic areas. Many species of birds and insects can also be seen at High Halstow National Nature Reserve, part of RSPB Northward Hill, less than 10 minutes away by car.

Fitness facilities include Hoo Sports Centre, a 20-minute walk away, which has a gym and swimming pool, and hosts a range of exercise classes; Strood Leisure Centre, 10 minutes’ drive away, which has indoor and outdoor sports courts and pitches, and The Strand indoor and outdoor swimming pools in Gillingham.

Chatham Snowsports Centre, eight miles away, offers classes in skiing and snowboarding, while Planet Ice in Gillingham offers lessons in ice skating and hockey. Other destinations popular with families include The Historic Dockyard Chatham, which offers a hands-on experience of the town’s maritime past, with exhibitions, tours, workshops and interactive displays, and Diggerland Kent, which offers a variety of rides and attractions for children (and adults) of all ages.

 

Transport

Commuters working in nearby towns, Maidstone, or London, will find several major roads in close proximity to the development. These include the A228 for West Malling and Royal Tunbridge Wells; the A2 for Canterbury, Dover, Dartford and south London, and the M2 for Maidstone and Faversham. Frequent trains run from both Strood and Rochester train stations – both around four miles from Willow Fields – to Maidstone, Dover, London St Pancras International, London Bridge, London Victoria and Ebbsfleet International, among many other destinations. In addition, a regular coach service operates between the village and Canary Wharf, Fenchurch Street, Whitehall and Victoria in central London, which could be of benefit to those working in the capital.
